Lifestyle • Fitness & Health • Books
Based in household yoga practices of more than 40 years, Jeff’s yoga work will include group sessions, and additional content not focused exclusively on posture. That additional content will include 9 Minutes or LESS, and will include THE PRANA PROJECT. Jeff will share therapeutic, maintenance, and training that alternate between the Playful (Lila) and the Heroic (Vira). Look for an occasional Book Review, Interview, Creative Adventure, or Personal Note in realms practical and imaginative.

II. Weight-bearing Floor Practices for Hands, Wrists, and Spine

If you have awakened your breath / spine through the upper body in the first set of nine practices, then you’re ready for deeper work, so here is the next set of nine short videos. Here is No. 1 of the second series. Eight more videos follow, each about one minute.

I hope by now, you begin to feel that no part of the body lives alone. All our movement originates with breath from the spine. As we work consciously from the spine, we will bear weight in the hands, wrists, elbows.

Let’s find the initial position on all fours on the floor. When we align the skeleton then the muscles operate in their primary functions without compensation. Place vertical arms with hands directly beneath the shoulders not too narrow, and not wider than your shoulders. Place the knees vertically down directly beneath the hip.

Images for the Upper Body Lines of Strength

These images ore from Thomas Myers’ Anatomy Trains.

Kumar taught me these channels via postures without pictures and without a formal description. He taught me by the pose. When I discovered Thomas Myers’ body maps of these lines in 2003 (?), it was a beautiful confirmation of what Kumar had been teaching me in his sage-like and direct way.

No. 5 in the nine video sequence to unlock Upper Torso

Can you breathe from the spine to the full extension of your fingertips?

Do the practice. Do it twice or three times or more until you feel it. Move on to the next video.
