As we close the year 2024 and open the door to a new year, allow yourself to be curious.
If we are to grow and prosper, how to begin from where we are? We hope there is always room to grow.
The yoga observes five conscious efforts of attention. Ideally, they harmonize and work together. The five efforts are
1.) Breath 2.) Body Movement/Stillness 3.) Food/Water 4.) Sleep 5.) Spirit/ Mind/ Heart in prayer, meditation, action.
We may take these fundamentals for granted but when we bring conscious attention to these areas then we live in greater wholeness, health, harmony.
1.) Am I breathing easily and completely? Do I exhale completely and inhale the full range of my lungs? Do notice any emotions related to my breathing?
2.) Is my body movement happy? Can I perform routine and daily movements without strain or pain? Do I want to move with greater strength, ease, confidence? Can I be still?
3.) Is my body and mind receiving sufficient nutrition and hydration? How can I know? Everything we receive is a food for the senses and the physical form, including all environmental conditions and sensory experience.
4.) Am I waking rested and ready for an active day? Am I dreaming?
5.) Do I observe power greater than myself? Am I receptive and listening to the formless inspiration that is not simply my own desire?
Not comprehensive, of course, but these questions serve to awaken the five efforts of attention.
What is needed for hand balances? How do they build? How do we enter and exit? Where is shtira?
Beginning again means asking familiar questions and looking for the answers in the posture, observing what doesn’t work, and what does. Learning twice, and twice again in Beginners Mind.

I invite you to recall warm-ups of this past week and to practice from whatever you can recall. If you cannot recall, then reboot yr favorite livestream recording and use that.
