Although the basic content remains the same in the first minutes of our livestream together, every day brings its own conditions and timing. Perfection in imitation is not the objective.
The objective is to move the body in three planes of the spine’s daily function. Why? Because all movement arises from the spine and as the spine is prepared, so too are we prepared for the day.
The objective is to activate the lymphatic lines. Why? The lymphatic channels are like a technologically advanced plumbing system. As we activate and clear the plumbing, yes, it works to the benefit of our immune system. Yet, this plumbing system of our lymph is smart. Its heightened function signals metabolic health through all systems of the body — and that means endocrine health, vascular and respiratory health, digestive health, etc.
The objective is to observe the body as a vessel for breath. We move from wholeness with intent. We enter posture. We carry our wholeness into the pose. We explore and expand within the pose. We exit consciously guided by breath. That mean to consciously awaken the limitations, the resistance, the pain. When we awaken the pain, it teaches us not to take it easy but rather how to carry our wholeness.
What is needed for hand balances? How do they build? How do we enter and exit? Where is shtira?
Beginning again means asking familiar questions and looking for the answers in the posture, observing what doesn’t work, and what does. Learning twice, and twice again in Beginners Mind.
I recorded this last night because I must be on the road during our usual time. Here we observe three planes of functional spinal movement with breath. I invite you to recall warm-ups of this past week and to practice from whatever you can recall. If you cannot recall, then reboot yr favorite livestream recording and use that.
This week marks the start of a new endeavor at the SAMURAI INTI Martial Arts Studio in Frisco. I’ll be teaching i a group class there at Sendai Sebastian Mejias ‘ dojo on Monday and Wednesday mornings.
