We close each session with a quotation from a wise guy — an ago scholar or swami, pandit, teacher, or ancient text. I call it my wise-guy story time. Wise-guy stories originate with Georg Feurstein’s book YOGA GEMS. Everyday I close by reading a selection by reading a random quotation from this anthology.
Rain or shine, every day, Monday through Saturday, me, my dog Luna and I host a fifteen minute WAKE UP WITH YOGA on this yoga channel.
We three will do our best to re-activate the joys of Beginners Mind and renew practices with you. Many of these moves passed down from the ancient Kumar practices, ha. The first 15 minutes of the livestream is free to you and all.
(Sounds of a radio tuning in to a rebel radio station )
NARRATOR: Congratulations and welcome to the initial dirty dozen initial subscribers who support this channel. Thank you for your belief in this truthfinder and reformed psychopathic narcissist’s theatre artist playwright and transformational storyteller yoga channel, Kumar style. HA.
Some subscribers and I go back two generations, some of you I’ve met recently. Some of you I’ve known across millennia, lol. ( SOUND: John Lennon’s ACROSS THE UNIVERSE plays. )
Kumar used to initiate conversations like that. Often the questions would involve both a conversational among those present and then some story from Kumar. Kumar was a natural performer whose physical understanding was genius, and who entertained guests of the most renowned swamis of the 1960a. Swamis Chetananda, Muktananda. The integral line, the Sivananda line, many many others. Some laughed or derided Kumar because he sold beer and wine, cigarettes, and doctored besan flour downstairs, while upstairs he hosted yoga practices.Iconoclastic Kumar. REMEMBER, Rain Or SHINE. TOMORROW and every day Monday through Saturday, 6:30 am Central Dallas, Texas time.
What is needed for hand balances? How do they build? How do we enter and exit? Where is shtira?
Beginning again means asking familiar questions and looking for the answers in the posture, observing what doesn’t work, and what does. Learning twice, and twice again in Beginners Mind.
I recorded this last night because I must be on the road during our usual time. Here we observe three planes of functional spinal movement with breath. I invite you to recall warm-ups of this past week and to practice from whatever you can recall. If you cannot recall, then reboot yr favorite livestream recording and use that.

This book was fundamental to body movement and awareness. Notice the three planes of functional spine.
If you ask a personal trainer, a pilates teacher, a yoga teacher, and a massage therapist about “core strength” it is likely you will get different answers.
We wish to observe the diaphragm as the central origin of neuromuscular action — activating channels of strength down through the lumbar vertebrae, hips, legs, feet. And likewise int he opposite direction up the spine through the thoracic spine, shoulders, neck and skull.
Here is an image for us to keep in mind and note how we humans hold together — feet to fingertips and eyes.
