In keeping with marital harmony, the potential benefits to health and well-being including no more snoring, I am going for what is a called a “lion diet plus sauerkraut.” I don’t usually do diets. I have made fasts a regular part of my life. I typically keep an awareness of “clean foods” with minimal sugar. However, I’ve gotten off track. The tornado took out the yoga studio in October 2019. Covid lockdowns closed about 50% of homegrown yoga studios. And in the past 18 months, I’ve added my father’s life into my daily routine. He is a tough 88. Instead of the usual fastidious concern for my food, I’ve simply eaten what is in front of me. This is not so great. I’ve aged more in the past 18 months than in the previous decade. My own patterns have been disrupted and although I’ve spent years paying attention in depth, I honestly don’t know what to think about food at all right now.
So Donna has found me in a vulnerable position and sold me on this experiment of carnivore. I visited the Dallas Colon Care office yesterday and again today to prepare. I have cleared out some debris and expect more to follow. My skin is patchy with various other signals of distress. Sleep patterns have suffered and that is unusual for me. My personal energy and motivation is not great. I do not want to sacrifice my daily health anymore, because without the health, there is nothing else. So, here I go on this carnivore experiment. I’m told that almost everything I had learned about meat has been mistaken. In keeping with the natural order of the human, meat must be back in my feed and, for a time, to be my exclusive feed. I don’t buy all the promotional material surrounding this meat program. However, I’m willing to experiment based on the data Donna has shared with me as it regards mitochondrial health, metabolic health, brain function, vascular health, mental health. I’m preparing for a gut biome shift. TIme to sleep now.
What is needed for hand balances? How do they build? How do we enter and exit? Where is shtira?
Beginning again means asking familiar questions and looking for the answers in the posture, observing what doesn’t work, and what does. Learning twice, and twice again in Beginners Mind.
I recorded this last night because I must be on the road during our usual time. Here we observe three planes of functional spinal movement with breath. I invite you to recall warm-ups of this past week and to practice from whatever you can recall. If you cannot recall, then reboot yr favorite livestream recording and use that.
This week marks the start of a new endeavor at the SAMURAI INTI Martial Arts Studio in Frisco. I’ll be teaching i a group class there at Sendai Sebastian Mejias ‘ dojo on Monday and Wednesday mornings.
Although not a true morning wake up, the song remains the same.
Today’s practice is my first intentional movements with breath. Three planes, lymphatics, joints. That’s the way we address the experience written in our bodies like physical graffiti. Through our intentional breath and movement we recognize our state of being dazed and confused. We can move with grace through good times bad times. We awaken our bodies like houses of the holy. Not to say that our practice is a stairway to heaven, but we cannot hope to get clear and strong if we try to sneak in through the out door.
You don’t need to go down to the seaside, or over the hills and far away, or even to california. Practice wherever you are in the light.
And after practice? It’s a celebration day. Eat a Tangerine, I will listen LOUD to a British rock n roll band who made their fortune in the U.S. of A. I will boogie with Stu and my black dog. These are dancing days. Led Zep is dead, long live Led Zep....
